Retrain Your Muscles, Transform Your Health

Amber McLain, Myofunctional Therapist
Hi! I am Amber, the founder of Elevated Myofunctional Therapy. I am a proud Texas native and a registered dental hygienist with over a decade of experience in general dentistry.
As a wife and mom of two, my journey into myofunctional therapy became personal after recognizing a need within my own home and community. Wanting to make a deeper impact, I pursued advanced training through Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT) to better serve my patients and families seeking answers beyond traditional dental care.
Today, I am committed to helping both children and adults improve their oral health, breathing, and overall wellness through myofunctional therapy. I believe in empowering families with the knowledge and tools they need to create lasting, healthy habits
Myofunctional Therapy
Myofunctional therapy is a structured, exercise-based program designed to retrain the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat for proper function. Through consistent daily exercises, patients build muscle strength, improve tongue posture, and promote nasal breathing—helping to address concerns such as snoring, sleep apnea, and incorrect swallowing patterns.
Assessment
Comprehensive patient assessment and education for children and adults seeking preventive health solutions. We identify harmful habits and develop personalized treatment plans to promote balanced oral development and support long-term stability beyond traditional dental care.
Breathing and Swallowing Correction
Specialized therapy to improve nasal breathing patterns and correct chewing and swallowing dysfunction. We address breathing issues that may impact sleep quality and overall wellness, helping patients develop healthier oral and respiratory habits.
Tongue Posture & Muscle Function
Our customized programs help eliminate harmful oral habits, establish proper lip seal and tongue posture, and improve overall muscle strength and coordination.
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs)
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are conditions that involve improper function and coordination of the muscles of the face and mouth. They can have a wide-ranging impact, influencing breastfeeding, craniofacial growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, dental alignment (occlusion), temporomandibular joint function, oral hygiene, the stability of orthodontic results, facial appearance, and more.
In many cases, OMDs stem from chronic mouth breathing or inadequate nasal breathing. Over time, the muscles and oral structures adapt to these altered breathing patterns, leading to dysfunctional habits and movement patterns. These disorders can complicate or interfere with treatment provided by orthodontists, dentists, dental hygienists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals who address orofacial function.
Some Orofacial Myofunctional disorders can include but are not limited to:
- Ankyloglossia (tongue tie)
- Open Mouth Posture
- Mouth Breathing
- Tongue Thrust
- Low Tongue Rest Posture
- Malocclusion
- TMJ/TMD
- Asymmetrical Facial Structure
- Sleep Apnea
